212 BODYBUILDING - WHY WE NEED IT

Hello everyone and welcome back to Muscle Central on YouTube. Today we'll take a look at the 212 division and whether it's needed and if so, why it's needed.

Jon Jewett is just the latest to come from the 212 division to the open and has had some success already. He secured his ticket to the open Olympia stage.

We've seen a number of 212's step on the open stage and be successful. Two became Mr Olympia, Hadi Choopan and Derek Lunsford.

The question is, if these 212 competitors can be successful in the open, why have a 212?

Yes, some can easily transition from the 212 to the open. Some like Shaun Clarida who at 5'2" will be at a disadvantage in the big shows with an Olympia quality lineup. He won't get a fair placing. We saw it at the Arnold.

Another point is the smaller bodybuilders turning pro won't have to rush putting on size to be competitive. With a 212 division, the smaller bodybuilders can take time and grow into the open division at a safer pace.
