The United Nations has fired nine employees of its agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, after an investigation found they “may have been involved” in the October 7 Hamas attack on southern Israel.

UN spokesperson Farhan Haq stated that there was sufficient information to justify the terminations, though further corroboration is needed.

The investigation initially looked into 19 UNRWA employees, finding evidence insufficient for 10 of them.

The attack by Hamas resulted in over 1,100 Israeli deaths, mostly civilians, and over 200 captives, Al-Jazeera has reported.
