On June 15, 2023, Chad Doerman from Ohio tragically killed his three young sons—Clayton (7), Hunter (4), and Chase (3). Prior to the murders, Doerman was reportedly acting erratically, mumbling and carrying a Bible. His wife, alarmed by his behavior, suggested calling his parents. Doerman initially dismissed her concerns, but later pulled out a gun and shot his son in front of her. Despite her attempts to intervene and administer first aid, Doerman chased down and killed his other two sons. The family’s stepdaughter managed to escape and seek help. When deputies arrived at their Monroe Township home, they found Doerman sitting with a rifle beside him; all 3 boys were dead, and the mother was injured. Doerman was indicted on 9 counts of aggravated murder, 8 counts of kidnapping, and 4 counts of assault. Initially pleading not guilty by reason of insanity, his confession was later ruled inadmissible due to improper Miranda Rights advisement. August 5th 2024, Doerman pled guilty to three counts of aggravated murder and two counts of felonious assault. In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to forego the death penalty. He was sentenced to three consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole, along with an additional 16-year minimum for the assault charges, to be served consecutively. The judge emphasized that Duerman will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of early release.
