Here are 5 of my favorite reasons why someone looking for a dog SHOULD consider the American Akita.

These aren't meant to be the only reasons, nor even the Top 5 Reasons. There are simply 5 Reasons that I chose to list for the purpose of a 1 minute video.

Also, it is important to note that not all Akitas are the same. Just like humans, every dog has it's own personality. However, breeds are breeds for a reason. That is because certain traits were selected for so you can typically get a general expectation of what comes with a particular breed of dog.

This is meant to list 5 desirable traits that you may be seeking that can be found in the American Akita breed.

1. Protection.

The American Akita is a natural protector. They bond very closely with their pack and will defend their family and territory, even without formal training,

2. True Loyalty.

The American Akita is unlike many other dog breeds in that they are devoted to their family and tend not to care about other humans, often viewing humans outside of their pack with suspicion. Whereas many dogs will love EVERY human they meet, the Akita is often aloof and distant towards those outside of their family, but open up and show their loving side at home.

3. Regal Beauty.

The American Akita is a gorgeous looking dog breed, driving many people to be interested in this dog purely on it's looks. When you go out in public, the Akita draws an insane amount of attention and adoration. It's like being in public with a celebrity, as many people will approach you to ask about your dog and to pet it.

4. Pack Leadership Skills.

If you're looking for a challenge in training a dog, the Akita will be a tremendous way to cut your teeth when it comes to dog training. Most other dog breeds will be a breeze by comparison once you have achieved success with the American Akita. They are a great dog breed to challenge yourself with if you desire and enjoy a high level of dog training mastery.

5. Health.

Many large dog breeds tend to have shorter lifespans and poor health as they age. The Akita - by comparison - is a very healthy large dog breed. They still can have common health issues for large dogs, such as hip - dysplasia and bloat, but overall they score high marks for health.
