Iran has rejected US and Arab efforts to tone down its response to the killing of top Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, The Wall Street Journal reported. WSJ cited officials saying Tehran informed Arab diplomats that it is not concerned if its response to the assassination leads to the outbreak of war. The WSJ report mentioned that "Iran has refused to provide detailed warnings that would help mitigate the impact of any strike.” Meanwhile, Israel would consider launching a preemptive strike to deter Iran if intelligence shows an Iranian attack is imminent, Israeli media reported. The US told G7 countries that Washington believes an Iranian attack on Israel could begin within the next 24 to 48 hours, Axios reported. Jordan’s Foreign Minister made a rare visit to Iran on August 4 in last-ditch effort to persuade Iran to hold back from attacking Israel in response to Haniyeh’s assassination in Tehran.
