To combat the extinction crisis, scientists have proposed a radical solution: a lunar vault filled with preserved samples of Earth’s most endangered species.

Due to the rapid threats of climate change and habitat loss, an international team suggests storing genetic material on the moon to safeguard biodiversity.

This lunar biorepository would maintain ultra-low temperatures necessary for preservation, utilizing the moon’s naturally frigid environment.

Unlike Earth-based facilities like the Svalbard seed vault, it would be safe from climate and geopolitical threats, The Guardian has reported.
