The criminality seen in the UK protests can't be allowed to "drive debate on immigration or integration," a government advisor is warning.

Lord Walney, who advises the government on political violence and disruption, told Sky News the police must be allowed to use "everything in their power" to get the "situation under control".

He said individual ringleaders needed to be targeted and social media companies "ought to do more", admitting it was a "difficult picture" across several different online platforms.

Lord Walney also spoke about more capability being given to the intelligence sources to crack down on "hostile states" such as Russia and Iran which create "en masse false accounts" to spread "disinformation" online.
