A lot has changed since the end of WW2.

Andrei Martyanov is an expert on Russian military and naval issues. He was born in Baku, USSR in 1963. He graduated from the Kirov Naval Red Banner Academy and served as an officer on the ships and staff position of Soviet Coast Guard through 1990. In mid-1990s he moved to the United States where he worked as Laboratory Director in a commercial aerospace group. He blogs at Reminiscence of the Future and is author of Losing Military Supremacy, The (Real) Revolution in Military Affairs and Disintegration: Indicators of the Coming American Collapse.

Larry C. Johnson is a former CIA officer and intelligence analyst, and former planner and advisor at the US State Department’s Office of Counter Terrorism. As an independent contractor, he has provided training for the US Military’s Special Operations community for 24 years.

Larry asked Andrei to summarize what it was like growing up in the Soviet Union, joining the military & dealing with the collapse of the USSR. After moving to the United States, Andrei started noticing that there was a serious lack of understanding about many issues surrounding WW2 in Europe, especially in recent decades. Unfortunately, this has translated into bad decisions about how to relate to Europe, Russia & the countries created by the breakup of the USSR. He therefore started writing in an attempt to educate decision makers.

This excellent discussion focuses on reality and the tremendous geopolitical & military changes in the world since WW2.
