Don't Trap Mice & Rats with Cheese
Most of us old folks grew up on Saturday morning cartoons where the mouse steals the cheeze from the mouse trap and evades the house cat. So when we grew up, got homes and mice of our own, we put cheese on the traps. I hear all the time about how a customer has smart mice that are always stealing the cheese or not even touching it. The truth is if they did steal it they had to do it pretty quick because the cheese goes bad in no time. It gets rock hard. Don’t believe me? Try it. Set a piece of cheese out in the morning and when you come home at night it will be so hard you could break a tooth. In fact, allot of the time, it hardens, and falls off the trap making you think the mouse got it.

Cheese is a bad choice. Peanut butter, slim jims, and even cotton balls work better than cheese. How you put it on there is important as well. Rub it on the bottom of the trigger and use way less than you think you need to. The cotton ball, entangle that thing on the trigger, make them work for it making it more likely to set the trap off.

Better than cheese, and better than peanut butter is nothing. Use nothing. Put the traps out overnight unset, let them pee and poo all over them, sniff them in safety. Then a couple days later, set the traps. They won’t hesitate to investigate. Just make sure you wash your hands before touching the traps so you don’t get your human stink on them.
