Elk Hunting The Rut

After planning an archery elk hunt I drew a coveted mountain goat tag in Montana's unit 313, throwing my plans out of whack, my elk hunt would have to go on the back burner. However, Mother Nature had her own plans, as heavy snow fell in unit 313. After much debate with family and friends, I decided to pursue elk between fresh snows in goat country rather than fight the weather. Any legal elk would do, as I had another hunt to think about, and my last elk hunt didn't pan out. We covered miles of backcountry in the Helena and Lewis & Clark National Forests in search of Wapiti over the next two weeks. After a great deal of persistence, determination, and reflection, it all came together.

Special Thanks to my Sister-in-law Kim for letting Lindy & I recover my elk despite her birthday plans!
