Do shorter URLs help you rank better on Google? So the conventional wisdom is that if you have a shorter URL, it will be easier to share and more trustworthy because it’s not filled with many parameters, question marks, etc. And it’s easier to share, but it’s also trustworthy because you can see where you’re going to go if you click the link.

Of course, right? So here on the screen, I’m showing you a graph from Backlinkco. They did a study and concluded a very clear correlation between shorter URLs and higher search engine results pages. And it’s pretty cut and dry. It looks like shorter URLs are just better all around.

Another thing to mention is that you can also omit non-important words. But now, this raises another question: how many of these non-important little words should we be removing? And does removing those help?

And I’m in between the fence here because I’ve heard people say, hey, you should remove those non-important characters. It doesn’t help you in search results or what you need is those important keywords. But I’ve also heard people talk about how if you don’t have those important little words, the meaning might be lost when someone reads that URL.

And I think that’s important and something worth talking about. When I write URLs, I try my best to keep the regular spoken length of the URL— something semantic that I can read but keep it short instead of having something long but only adding keywords in the URL.

Keep the URL short, but keep the two-letter words in there so that when someone’s reading it makes sense.
