Eric Church Sings "As Good as I Once Was" At Toby Keith Tribute Concert
Eric Church delivered an amazing tribute to Toby Keith at the "Toby Keith: American Icon" concert at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville last night (July 29). The event celebrated Keith's contributions to country music, and when it was Eric Church’s turn to perform, he honored “The Big Daddy Dog” by performing Keith’s hit song "As Good as I Once Was." The tribute concert, attended by many fans and fellow artists, aimed to honor Keith's legacy while supporting charitable causes. A portion of the proceeds from the event went to the OK Kids Korral and the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. Church has also opened up previously during an interview with Backstage Country, sharing what it was like meeting Toby Keith for the first time: “I have a thousand Toby Keith stories – some I can share and some not – but the first time I met Toby, we both frequented a bar in Printer’s Alley in Nashville called The Fiddle and Steel Guitar Bar. I remember walking in my first time, and apparently, some of the patrons had been harassing a bartender behind the bar, and as I walked in, Toby had taken the guy harassing the patrons and had dragged him by his shirt collar all the way down the bar. And as I walked in the door, the guy dropped in front of me, and I look up, and there’s Toby Keith, and I kinda stuck out my hand and said, ‘Hi,’ and we met.” The two became friends and ended up touring together in 2011 on Keith’s Locked & Loaded Tour. “Toby was always a guy that did things his own way, and I think of that fondly now when I think of him,” Church said. As for the "Toby Keith: American Icon" concert, the evening was filled with stories, songs, and admiration for Keith's journey and achievements, and everyone celebrated by singing his music and saying a few words about him. For those who missed it, NBC will be broadcasting this event on August 28 for all to see. In the meantime, you can enjoy this clip of Church performing "As Good as I Once Was" and welcoming Brantley Gilbert and HARDY to the stage!
