"This ain't no game, Geena, I don't want you messin' with them." Vertical has revealed an official trailer for an indie film titled Catching Dust, which first premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival last year. The film marks the feature directorial debut of British filmmaker Stuart Gatt after a few other shorts, and opens in the US in August. As Geena decides to leave her criminal husband Clyde and their isolated Texas hideout, a couple from NY suddenly arrive with a trailer. Ignoring the risks, she convinces Clyde to let them stay, a decision that leads to dangerous consequences for everyone involved. Tribeca adds: "In this fascinating look at how couples sustain relationships, even in the face of erosion and dismay, audiences will grapple with the friction of romantic pursuits and conflicting friendships as much as Geena and Clyde do in Stuart Gatt's directorial debut." The indie movie stars Erin Moriarty, Dina Shihabi, Ryan Corr, and Jai Courtney. This looks like it's a dusty thriller about two couples with so many buried secrets they can't contain them all.

Here's the main official trailer for Stuart Gatt's film Catching Dust, direct from Vertical's YouTube:

Via Tribeca: "Erin Moriarty stars as Geena, an artist and painter ready to dream big, tired of the malaise of living in the harsh Big Bend desert with controlling partner Clyde (Jai Courtney). At her wit's end, she's preparing to leave when a new couple shows up at the commune in a trailer from New York, eager to make a new life for themselves away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Things quickly turn dangerous for both couples as tensions boil over; egos come to a head as attempts to connect leave everyone frayed and on the edge of disaster." Synopsis
Geena and her outlaw spouse Clyde, have taken refuge in a solitary trailer on a deserted community in Texas’ Big Bend. Tired of his autocratic ways, Geena plans to escape, when a new trailer shows up with a pair from New York. Geena persuades Clyde to let them stay, despite the dangers they will bring, a choice that leads to serious trouble for everyone.

In an interview with E. Nina Rothe, director Stuart Gatt commented on his process of getting the idea for the story, saying “I kept having this image of a trailer in the middle of the desert. And for some reason that image was really exciting to me, and it really fascinated me and you start to challenge yourself with people who could live there, and why are they there? And what would force them to be there and what could happen right now that will turn this character’s life upside down. And you start going on this journey in your mind, basically, which was just really the genesis, this simple image. That happens to me a lot. And it was definitely the case with this story. That one image of a trailer in the middle of the desert was the seed that the rest of the story grew out of.”

Reviews
Brian Tallerico in a RogerEbert.com review wrote “‘Catching Dust’ should be a character study of two very different couples and how they influence one another, but it never quite takes these people seriously enough to work on that level.”

Stephanie Archer from Film Enquiry gave the film a more positive review, writing “‘Catching Dust’ does risk losing the audience in the drawn-out moments between emotional interactions. Yet, as an audience, you will find yourself shocked by how invested you are in by film’s end.”
