Trace Adkins Fights Back Tears Talking About Toby Keith & Performs “American Soldier”

Trace Adkins was doing everything he could to fight back the tears as he spoke about Toby Keith during the benefit concert held in Nashville last night (July 29). Adkins spoke about how much Keith loved the men in uniform and how after every show Keith did, the last thing he would do before he walked off the stage was tell the audience, “Never apologize for being patriotic.” Adkins noted that every time Keith would say it, he knew it was not only a challenge to others to stand up and be proud to be an American, but that Keith really believed that. As Adkins continued talking about Keith, you could hear his voice cracking due to the emotions he was holding back. Trace Adkins really loved Toby and said he was, “Proud to have known him and call him a friend.” Trace went on to perform “American Soldier” as part of ‘Toby Keith: Allstar Celebration honoring an American Country Icon -Toby Keith’ which raised money for the Toby Keith OK Kids Korral and the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
