"If you do find her, it's probably not the sister you remember." Tubi has revealed an official trailer for an indie thriller titled The Thicket, which will actually be opening in theaters this fall. Despite being produced by the free streaming service Tubi, this will be getting a theatrical release in September before it's streaming later in the year. Adapted from the bestselling book of the same name by Joe R. Lansdale. When a renowned bounty hunter and a band of unlikely heroes head out to pursue a brutal killer, they find themselves in a deadly no-man’s-land known as The Thicket. Peter Dinklage stars as Reginald Jones, who's recruited by a desperate man to track down a killer known only as Cutthroat Bill, played by Juliette Lewis. A film about vengeance, justice, and unlikely companionship, this one also stars Esmé Creed-Miles, Levon Hawke, Macon Blair, Andrew Schulz, James Hetfield, David Midthunder, with Arliss Howard, Leslie Grace, and Gbenga Akinnagbe. This looks like it might be properly thrilling - the trailer is worth a watch.

"She’s seemingly indestructible and has endured brutality and extreme violence," says Lewis, "but the key to the character for me was her voice, which came instantly when I first read the script. It shows her mangled resilience, deep and gravely."

"Part of the fun of how I do my job is that you can’t always explain the 'how' or 'where' these things come from. It’s like channeling for me," she says.

Lewis describes the film as a "punk-rock Western" in which "every single person jumps off the screen."

The project was also meaningful as a connection to her late father, actor Geoffrey Lewis, known for many Western roles. "Everything about filling this role reminded me of my father‘s legacy as a villain in one of the greatest Westerns, High Plains Drifter. I pick up where he left off."

Dinklage, 55, who is also a producer, says The Thicket is "definitely a passion project of many years in the making for me."

"The characters of Joe Lansdale’s book sprang off the page in such a cinematic way we had to see it through to the screen adaptation it eventually became," he says.

"The Western genre is such a classic form of settlement in a land without proper laws in place yet. A new beginning to a life on an unknown frontier," says the Game of Thrones alum.

"The Thicket captures that in the way Joseph Conrad did with Heart of Darkness. What’s down that unknown path? What are the consequences of that journey? And how will you ever return to anything you thought you once were?"

"Fun stuff as storytellers," says Dinklage.

The Thicket is in theaters Sept. 6.

Peter Dinklage stars as a bounty hunter in The Thicket, facing off against a female villain, Cutthroat Bill.
Dinklage's character enlists a team to capture a killer, including a grave-digging ex-slave and a woman with a reputation.
The cinematic adaptation of The Thicket is directed by Elliott Lester and is set for release on September 6, 2024.
Peter Dinklage was well into his tenure as the wine-sipping, information-knowing Tyrion Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones when he was first announced to be involved with the Western flick, The Thicket. A full decade later, we finally have our first look at the film that will giddy up into cinemas on September 6 thanks to a debut trailer. Joining the four-time Emmy Award-winning actor in his latest big-screen role is Academy Award-nominee and ‘90s cinema queen Juliette Lewis (Cape Fear), who will appear as the villain to Dinklage’s good guy in the film based on Joe R. Lansdale’s 2013 novel of the same name.

Dinklage is a rough and tough bounty hunter named Reginald Jones in The Thicket, who’s on the mission of his life after a man seeks out his talents to find and capture a killer. While most Westerns have a man as their primary antagonist, this isn’t the case for The Thicket as Lewis takes on the role of the brutal gunslinger known as Cutthroat Bill (we love). Continuously slipping through the cracks, Cutthroat Bill is as dangerous as she is cunning and will be a formidable opponent for the well-seasoned veteran bounty hunter. Knowing that he’s met his match, Reginald Jones gathers a ragtag team to help him on his quest for justice, enlisting the help of a grave-digging ex-slave and a woman with just as much of a reputation as their target.

Filling out the project’s ensemble cast is a call sheet that includes Levon Hawke (Blink Twice), Esmé Creed-Miles (Hanna), Macon Blair (I Care A Lot), David Midthunder (On Sacred Ground), James Hetfield (Metallica), Arliss Howard (Mank), Leslie Grace (In The Heights), and Gbenga Akinnagbe (The Old Man).

Who’s Behind ‘The Thicket’?

Action fans will be happy to know that The Thicket’s cinematic adaptation is in the hands of Elliott Lester, who has previously helmed such titles as Blitz, Nightingale, and Aftermath. On a very different note, Lester also worked on music videos for artists such as Hilary Duff and Jessica Simpson. Reworking Lansdale’s book for series form is writer Chris Kelley, who also holds credits on AMC’s Preacher and HBO’s Banshee. A real labor of love, not only does Dinklage star in The Thicket but he also serves as a producer alongside Tubi Films and Estuary Films’ David Ginsberg.

You can check out the debut trailer for The Thicket above and mark your calendar to prepare for its release on September 6.
