Albuquerque police arrest suspect who shot through an apartment door at officers

An Albuquerque man was arrested after he shot at officers through an apartment door in the northeast.

The Albuquerque Police Department was responding to a dispute where a caller reported a firearm was pointed at their head by Jeremy Hovey. Police responded to the 5400 block of Montgomery Boulevard NE.

Once officers arrived and told Hovey to exit, he screamed out an expletive and shot multiple times at the apartment door where APD officers were located, according to police. No officers or neighbors were hurt in the shooting.

The victim was located unharmed inside the apartment. APD Chief Harold Medina said the shooting at Albuquerque officers happened in light of another recent shooting involving an officer.

Hovey later exited the apartment and was taken into police custody. He is charged with four counts of aggravated assault upon an officer, three counts of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and battery against a household member.

But Hovey is no stranger to the law. Last year, he was charged with an aggravated DWI. In that same case, he caught a negligent use of a deadly weapon charge,

That case is still pending, and Hovey was expected to appear in court on January 17th for a failure to comply hearing.

"A failure to comply hearing could be a situation where there's some pretrial release conditions on a defendant, and there are violations," KOAT Legal Expert John Day said.

Hovey was in court on Friday afternoon, Jan. 5 and he did not enter a plea.

Hovey will remain in custody until his pretrial detention hearing on January 9th.
