When we feel that we're constantly insulted, bullied, and provoked, it can become difficult to restrain ourselves from responding in kind. On the international stage meant to open perhaps the most anticipated, beloved, and celebrated gathering of nations, 2.6 billion of the world's inhabitants generally—and, some may opine, conservative Americans more specifically—were insulted by aspects of the display put on by the host country. As upsetting as we may find this, Christ instructs us to love those who hate us, bless those who persecute us, and do good to those who spitefully misuse us. In the midst of the most unimaginably agonizing suffering, He prayed, “Father, forgive them; they don’t know what they’re doing.” We must allow Holy Spirit to govern our response, according to what Christ taught us. When we come for them with a Good superior in strength to their evil, their repentance and reformation is God’s justice for us.
