Gretchen Walsh Breaks Olympic Record in 100m Butterfly at Paris 2024
Hailing from Nashville, Gretchen Walsh achieved a remarkable feat on Saturday at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, representing Team USA.

The 21-year-old, an alumna of Harpeth Hall, completed the women's 100-meter butterfly semifinal in an astounding 55.38 seconds, surpassing the previous Olympic record held by Sweden's Sarah Sjöström, which stood at 55.48 seconds.

Earlier in June, Walsh set the world record with a time of 55.18 seconds during the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials.

Currently a collegiate swimmer at the University of Virginia, Walsh boasts an impressive career with 18 NCAA championships and 21 All-ACC honors. Her older sister, Alex Walsh, is also an Olympic competitor, participating in the 200 individual medley.

Gretchen Walsh is also slated to participate in the 4x100-meter relay later on Saturday.

The 100-meter butterfly final is scheduled for Sunday at 1:40 p.m. CT, where Torri Huske of the USA, who won the second semifinal, will also be competing.
