In a span of nine days, former President Donald Trump was wounded in an assassination attempt; a bandaged Trump then accepted the Republican nomination; 81-year-old President Biden abandoned his reelection bid under pressure from top Democrats, and Vice President Kamala Harris hastily secured commitments from enough Democratic delegates to wrap up the party’s nomination at the top of the ticket.
