Lightning and thunderstorms⚡️🌨️

Lightning and thunderstorms are fascinating meteorological phenomena! Lightning is a sudden discharge of electricity in the atmosphere, usually during a thunderstorm. It occurs when the electrical charge in a storm cloud becomes strong enough to overcome the resistance of the air, causing a spark that illuminates the sky. This discharge can occur within a cloud, between clouds, or between a cloud and the ground. Thunderstorms develop when warm, moist air rises and cools, forming cumulonimbus clouds. These clouds can produce heavy rain, strong winds, hail, and sometimes tornadoes. A well-developed thunderstorm can reach the stratosphere and has a very powerful updraft. To stay safe during a thunderstorm, avoid taking shelter under trees or tall objects, stay indoors away from windows, and avoid using electrical appliances. If you’re caught outside, find a low-lying area and avoid open fields or isolated tall objects.
