Major Bust: Top Mexican Cartel Leaders Captured by U.S. Authorities! 🔥🔥🔥

U.S. law enforcement officials have apprehended two top leaders of the powerful Sinaloa Cartel, one of Mexico's most notorious criminal organizations, according to a statement from the Justice Department on Thursday.

Ismael Zambada García and Joaquín Guzmán López, key figures in the cartel, oversee substantial transnational cocaine and fentanyl operations that distribute narcotics into the United States, Europe, and beyond. The Sinaloa Cartel, which they lead, is one of the largest and most dangerous drug trafficking groups in Mexico and the world. Both men are currently in custody in El Paso, Texas.

Attorney General Merrick Garland emphasized the severity of the threat posed by fentanyl, stating, “Fentanyl is the deadliest drug threat our country has ever faced. The Justice Department will not rest until every single cartel leader, member, and associate responsible for poisoning our communities is held accountable.”

Ismael Zambada García, aged 76 and known as “El Mayo,” has been a longstanding target of U.S. authorities. As a co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel, he faces multiple federal indictments dating back over two decades.

Joaquín Guzmán López, the son of infamous crime boss Joaquín Guzmán Loera (El Chapo), rose to a leadership role within the cartel along with his three brothers following his father's 2017 extradition to the U.S. His brother, Ovidio Guzmán López, was arrested in Mexico and extradited to Chicago in September.

Joaquín Guzmán López is scheduled to appear in Federal District Court in Chicago soon. The location of Ismael Zambada García’s trial remains uncertain.

Unlike his ally El Chapo, who was extradited, convicted in Brooklyn federal court in 2019, and sentenced to life imprisonment, Zambada has never served jail time, according to U.S. officials.

The arrests mark a significant success for U.S. federal agencies, including the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration, and Homeland Security Investigations, which have long pursued the upper echelons of the Sinaloa Cartel.
