Sunset Boulevard (1950)

"Sunset Boulevard" is an American film noir released in 1950, directed and co-written by Billy Wilder. The plot revolves around Joe Gillis, a struggling screenwriter who becomes entangled with Norma Desmond, a reclusive and delusional silent film star living in a decaying mansion on Sunset Boulevard. Norma dreams of making a triumphant return to the screen and hires Joe to write her screenplay. As Joe becomes increasingly ensnared in Norma's fantasy world, their relationship takes a dark and ultimately tragic turn. The film is a scathing critique of Hollywood's obsession with fame and the often cruel realities of aging and obsolescence. Gloria Swanson's performance as the fading star Norma Desmond is considered one of the greatest in cinema history.
