Dylan Cease made history by throwing the second no-hitter in San Diego Padres history against the Washington Nationals. With a little help from Joe Musgrove, who threw the first, Cease achieved this feat with a 3-0 victory, completing a three-game sweep. He struck out nine and walked three, finishing the game with 114 pitches, despite a 1-hour, 16-minute rain delay.

After nearly achieving a no-hitter two years ago, Cease finally succeeded, retiring the last batter, CJ Abrams, on a flyout in the ninth. Cease had the support of manager Mike Shildt and convinced him to continue despite a high pitch count. His strategy, relying heavily on sliders, kept the Nationals off balance.

The closest the Nationals came to a hit was a ball that popped out of Xander Bogaerts’ glove, but Jackson Merrill caught it before it hit the ground. Cease's stellar performance included 22 shutout innings over his last three starts, pushing his Cy Young Award odds from 100-1 to 40-1 at ESPN BET.
