This is a laughing kookaburra from the Kookaburra species. The laughing kookaburra is native to eastern mainland Australia but has also been introduced to parts of New Zealand, Tasmania, and Western Australia. It occupies dry eucalypt forest, woodland, city parks, and gardens. It belongs to the kingfisher subfamily Halcyoninae.The loud, distinctive call of the laughing kookaburra is widely used as a stock sound effect in situations that involve an Australian bush setting or tropical jungle.They are found in habitats ranging from humid forest to arid savannah, as well as in suburban areas with tall trees or near running water.
