- Our local Councils are soon to create Disaster Adaption Plans for our towns based on extreme climate modelling. This will inform Land Planning and Zoning, as well as all other Council business.
- Disaster Adaption Planning is a requirement of the United Nations Sendai agreement 2015-2030 and the United Nations Environment Programme assists countries to develop adaption plans.
- NSW has passed the Reconstruction 2022 Act which allows The Minister to declare regions of NSW a Disaster Prevention Area if the Minister is "satisfied" the area is "likely" to be directly or indirectly affected by a disaster. Once the Minister declares the zone a Disaster Prevention Area the Reconstruction Authority can forcibly take your land- they can do what with they want with your land- they can sell your land.
- The NSW Reconstruction Fund accepts money from "Philanthropists" and "Donations".
- The recently released NSW State Disaster Mitigation Plan discusses bright ideas such as: private interests can pay for your relocation and then get the development rights to your land. And "communities" to be moved together in to new housing. Widespread managed retreat policy for NSW will be released mid 2025.
- The recently released Federal Adaption Plan outlines the plan to put a climate risk notice on every home in Australia. This will of course affect insurance affordability. There will be triggers overlayed in regions to state when Managed Retreat is to be considered! What's the bet that one of the triggers will be a certain percentage of homes are no longer insured!

The NSW government currently has submissions open for their Disaster Adaption Plan guidelines. All links can be found in Substack article: https://kate739.substack.com/p/managed-retreat-adaption-plans-privatised
