Contrary to what some commentators say, the US isn’t a republic or democracy and hasn’t been one for a long time.
Even before 2016 when Hillary Clinton rigged the nomination (all found in Wikileaks) against Bernie Sanders.
Or 2020 when there was no transparency in the entire election process.
The US is a very bad illusion of democracy.
