The Shylight is a lamp installation developed by Studio DRIFT between 2010 and 2014. Inspired by the behavior of certain flowers that close at night and reopen at dawn, the Shylight is a cocoon-like structure that hides a lamp. The design mimics the natural process by which flowers attract and repel pollen-gathering bees.

Key Features:
The lamp is concealed within a cocoon that opens and closes in response to natural light, much like the flowers that inspired it.
The Shylight was permanently installed at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam’s new Philips Wing from November 1, 2014, and is now part of the museum’s collection.
Collaboration: The Shylight was a collaborative effort between Studio DRIFT’s team, seamstresses, and automation experts, showcasing the studio’s unique blend of traditional craftsmanship and technological innovation.
