Lisa Robinson - Nearly $40,000 tax dollars power washed down the drain - West Shore Skate Park

Hello, Pickering. I’m Councillor Lisa Robinson, and I’m here to call out the blatant misuse of your hard-earned tax dollars by the Corporation of the City of Pickering.
The City spent over $30,000 of your money on artwork for our West Shore Community skate park, promising it would last 5 to 10 years with high-quality materials that were safe for skateboarders. Yet, less than a year later, the artwork has proven dangerous, creating a slippery surface that endangers our kids and community members.
Adding insult to injury, the City spent an additional eight and a half thousand dollars to then power wash the skatepark back to its original look and supposedly relocate the artwork. This is a lie. The artwork wasn’t relocated; it was replaced with a small vinyl patch around the edges of the skate park, and not on the surface as originally promised.
This is deception, plain and simple. Nearly $40,000 of your tax dollars wasted, and the City didn't deliver what we paid for. If they can mismanage a small project like this, what kind of cover-ups are they capable of on multi-million dollar projects?
Since being elected as your city councillor, I have always fought for transparency and accountability, from our Council and the Corporation of the City of Pickering, because our community deserves better. We deserve projects that deliver on their promises and respect our hard-earned tax dollars.
Some of you may not always agree with me or my views, but regardless of whether you are Liberal, Conservative, NDP, or have no political affiliation, we can all agree that this is just common sense and not the way we want our tax dollars to be spent.
I urge the City of Pickering to take immediate action to rectify this blatant waste of taxpayer money. The artwork was defective from the start, yet someone in the City signed off on it. It's time for the City to own up to its mistakes and stop hiding behind nameless, faceless committees that leave no one accountable.
How many more times are we going to stand idly by and watch the City power wash hundreds of thousands of dollars of our hard-earned money down the drain?
