Harris raises $50m after Biden’s exit from presidential race

Since President Joe Biden exited the race on Sunday, Democrats have contributed nearly $50 million to Vice-President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.

ActBlue reported this as the largest single-day fundraising total of the 2024 cycle, driven by a surge in grassroots support.

The campaign raised over $27.5 million within the first five hours, nearly doubling by day’s end.

This influx is the largest for online Democratic donations since 2020, when ActBlue raised $73.5 million following Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death.

The new funds come as a turnaround for the Democratic Party, which had seen diminished support after Biden’s underwhelming debate performance and a decrease in small donor contributions.

The excitement around Harris is evident, with Win With Black Women raising over $1.5 million in three hours through a Zoom call, the BBC has reported.
