A Deeper Look At Modesty | Part 3

In my lesson titled: A Deeper Look At Modesty | Part 3 ... I continued addressing the emotional and controversial Bible topic of modesty.

For this and Part 4's lesson... I spent the majority of them presenting various arguments that many people... Even some Christians... Offer as a way to try to justify immodesty in some sense. In these lessons... After I presented each argument... I then addressed them by showing why they are bad arguments... And why they must be rejected.

These lessons are controversial because so many people who defend immodesty use one or more of these arguments to try to do so... And my task for both of these lessons is to expose them all as being wrong.

In the main discussion of this lesson... I began considering some of the various arguments put forth to try to justify immodesty. In this lesson... I addressed twelve arguments. I want you to consider how so many of these justifications for immodesty are simply lousy excuses that deflect responsibility away from the individual who is choosing to be immodest... And places it on something or someone else. Here they are...
1) "It is not my fault if another person lusts after my body!"
2) "It does not matter how I dress because people are going to lust anyways!"
3) "You have a dirty mind!"
4) "The Bible is not clear on defining modesty! The Bible does not say how high or low the hemline should be! The Bible does not tell us how tight is too tight for our clothing!" Some people... Even some brethren... Will either imply or plainly say, "Modesty cannot be defined!"
5) "You are binding the Old Testament! Do not go to the Old Testament to try to tell me how I, as a New Testament Christian, should or should not dress!"
6) "As culture changes, so does what is acceptable and modest in regards to clothing."
7) "Each person determines modesty for themselves."
8) "But… That is how my friends dress! That is how everyone at school dresses! That is the style! Practically everyone dresses that way!"
9) "It is my body, so it is my right!" In other words... "It is my right to choose to dress however I want!"
10) "My clothes do not define me!"
11) "You are so old-fashioned!"
12) "You are just making a big deal out of this topic!"

This lesson may challenge what you currently believe... And that is okay! I do not want you nor anyone to take my words as the final authority... Because they are not the final authority!

God's word is the ultimate and final authority in all spiritual matters! I only want you and others to accept the words that I have spoken in this lesson if they line up with what the Bible teaches.

I invite you to put the words that I have spoken in this lesson to the test... Go and search the Scriptures for yourself... And see if what I have said is true. Always check and make sure that what I teach and what anyone else teaches lines up with what the Bible teaches!

Be like the noble Bereans who "received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so" (Acts 17:11). In 1 Thessalonians 5:21... Paul said, "Test all things; hold fast what is good."

If you ever believe that I have taught something that does not line up with the Bible... Please reach out to me and let me know... Because I only want to teach that which the Bible teaches! You can contact me by sending an email to me at gbgbiblicalguidance@gmail.com
