Allies of US Vice President Kamala Harris have begun reaching out to Democratic donors to prepare financial support for her if President Joe Biden drops out of the election.

As Politico reports, citing sources, a Democratic Party adviser has begun soliciting donations from female donors. A women's political organization has begun reaching out to its donor base to secure an initial wave of contributions.

"What's important is that there is now a massive demonstration of support for her, which is a signal that we are all for her," said the leader of one of the women's political organizations, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The organization has already begun preparing emails and messages. Those who support women candidates have already begun planning how to help Harris with a quick show of force by preparing lists of donors. Some have already indicated their willingness to give.

The organization's leader says donors will "line up to support" Harris "as soon as she becomes a potential candidate." That's the message she hears from all donors.

A donor adviser, however, said five people have already committed to making potential six-figure donations to Harris’ Democratic ticket. The effort is still in its infancy, and it’s unclear what the status of the campaign’s funding will be if multiple women end up running for the nomination.

Politico believes that the momentum behind Harris's rise is evidence that her position as a candidate to replace Biden is fragile.

If there is an open convention, the contenders for the job could be California Gov. Gavin Newsom or Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker. Newsom has significant resources in California and is a powerful fundraiser and emissary for the party, while Pritzker is a multibillionaire heir to the Hyatt hotel fortune. As President Joe Biden faces increasing pressure to drop his reelection bid, most Democrats believe his vice president would make a good president herself. Vice President Kamala Harris has become the most popular Democratic candidate to replace Biden than any other potential candidate, Newsweek reports.
