In a recent campaign rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, former President and 2024 presidential nominee Donald Trump made a striking statement, saying he "owes immigration [his] life." This remark came a week after he was shot while discussing the Southern border.

Trump recounted the incident, noting that he turned his head during the speech, causing the bullets to narrowly miss his head and only clip his ear. He attributed his survival to the timing of this movement while pointing to an immigration border sign.

Reflecting on the border policies during his presidency, he said, "We had the best border, the safest border, the border that saved my life." He added, "I owe immigration my life. It's true, it's true," eliciting cheers from the crowd.

This speech was part of a rally where Trump was joined by US Senator and vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance at Van Andel Arena on July 20, 2024.
