This is my "V16"...the little brother of the Military Rescue Marker, the V17. I find fluorescent orange nylon ripstop bag-backpacks at thrift stores. Companies use them for promotions and Orange is actually a common color. This one cost me ten cents. I cut off the cordage it comes. I CUT BEHIND the seam to take advantage of its structure so the material won't fray as quickly. i use four 3 foot pieces of paracord and attach them to the corners using a "button" made with ultra light plastic marbles that you can get at any Dollar Store (you can use a smooth pebble or anything roundish. For a dollar or two, I now have a quick and ez to make Emergency Signal Panel I can use to signal aircraft or search parties. Total weight is 1.4 ounces. The weight is important to me because my signal panel lives in a pocket on my field top along with other lightweight precious survival items like a button compass, mini ferro rod and more. These items all add up, so keeping them as light as possible really pays off. Carry a signal panel on your body. It's important, Marion...Trust me.
