Baby Blues was a very risky concept. It was an adult animated series, but without the fantastical or wacky elements that were commonplace with adult animation at the time. Shows like Family Guy and South Park, along with The Simpsons and Futurama were all popular at the time and came around before Baby Blues, BUT all of these shows would have needed to be animated to tell their stories. Baby Blues, by contrast, was completely normal and grounded in reality (taking out some fictional yet plausible absurdity that one finds in fiction). Baby Blues could have been shot with real actors on a sound stage, but the show creators obviously wanted to retain the style of the comic strip in which the series was based. Baby Blues only aired one season, but a second was produced and would later be shown on cable syndication. However, if the show were being produced today it would fit right into the line ups on several television stations or streaming platforms.
