A Deeper Look At Modesty | Part 1

In my lesson titled: A Deeper Look At Modesty | Part 1 ... I began a thorough discussion on the Bible topic of modesty. Immodesty is a big issue in this world today as well as inside the Lord's church.

My primary goal for Part 1 was to clearly define God's law on modesty that we can find written in the Scriptures. By plainly defining what God's law on modesty is as I did in this lesson... Doing that exposes and corrects the abundance of false views on this topic.

In this lesson... I discussed what God's standard of being properly clothed is by considering Adam and Eve in the earlier parts of the book of Genesis. Adam and Eve had made themselves "loin coverings" ... But... The Lord made them "robes" and "clothed them." The implication we can draw from this context is that they were not sufficiently covered by the fig leaves alone!

I also read and discussed Exodus 28:40-42. This chapter talks about the making of the priests' garments under the Mosaic system. From there... I went back to Exodus 20:25-26... And I read and discussed those verses.

I then read and discussed two more Old Testament passages. One of them was Isaiah 47:1-3. This passage speaks about the humiliation that Babylon would face. The whole chapter of Isaiah 47 is a prophecy of the destruction of Babylon. From that passage... We can gather that exposing the thigh is synonymous with exposing one's nakedness. One is considered naked in the eyes of God if their thigh is exposed!

The other passage... Which makes a similar point about nakedness as the one in Isaiah 47 does... Is Nahum 3:5... Which says some strong words about Nineveh.

In this lesson... I also considered a powerful New Testament passage relating to how we should clothe ourselves... Which is 1 Timothy 2:9-10.

Here is what we can gather from the passages that I read and discussed in Part 1... In order to be adequately covered in the eyes of God… Clothing must start at the shoulders and reach down to the knees. The clothing we wear in any public setting needs to cover the space between our shoulders and our knees and not only that... It also must not be too tight or revealing... So that it will not entice someone sexually! Listen... That is the standard that we find throughout the Scriptures!

This lesson may challenge what you currently believe... And that is okay! I do not want you nor anyone to take my words as the final authority... Because they are not the final authority!

God's word is the ultimate and final authority in all spiritual matters! I only want you and others to accept the words that I have spoken in this lesson if they line up with what the Bible teaches.

I invite you to put the words that I have spoken in this lesson to the test... Go and search the Scriptures for yourself... And see if what I have said is true. Always check and make sure that what I teach and what anyone else teaches lines up with what the Bible teaches!

Be like the noble Bereans who "received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so" (Acts 17:11). In 1 Thessalonians 5:21... Paul said, "Test all things; hold fast what is good."
