Al-Mu'tadid's only wife was Qatr al-Nada. She was the daughter of Khumarawayh, son of Ahmad ibn Tulun. Her real name was Asma. Al-Mu'tadid married her by proxy while she was living with her father in Egypt. She arrived in Baghdad in 895. Her dowry was so rich that it rivaled any royal treasury. She was one of the most intelligent and regal women of her time. She died on 8 July 900, and was buried in the precincts of the Caliphal Palace. One of his concubines was Jijak. She was a Turkish, and the mother of the future Caliph Al-Muktafi. Another concubine was Shaghab. She was a Greek, and had been formerly a slave of Umm Qasim, a daughter of Muhammad ibn Abdallah ibn Tahir, the Tahirid governor of Baghdad in 851–867.She had been formerly named Na'ima. She had a brother, Gharib and a sister, Khatif. She gave birth to Al-Mu'tadid's second son Al-Muqtadir. Another concubine was Fitnah.
