Republican candidate Donald Trump was attacked during his rally in Pennsylvania. The 78-year-old was shot in the ear while campaigning in Butler city. The assassination attempt on Trump is not the first time a US leader has been attacked. The country has a long history of political violence. Before Trump, President Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981. He spent 12 days in the hospital and the attack reportedly boosted his popularity. Republican Presidential candidate Theodore Roosevelt went on to give his speech after being shot in Wisconsin. President Abraham Lincoln was shot in the head in Washington.
