History of Donald Trump
Donald Trump, born on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York City, rose to prominence initially as a real estate developer in New York City. He took over his father's real estate business, expanding it into Manhattan and beyond, building iconic properties like Trump Tower. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he became known for his flamboyant lifestyle, outspoken personality, and frequent appearances in the media.
Trump's entry into politics began in the late 1990s when he flirted with the idea of running for president but did not pursue it seriously at the time. In 2015, he announced his candidacy for the presidency of the United States as a Republican. His campaign was marked by controversial statements, populist rhetoric, and a focus on issues like immigration and trade.
Despite skepticism from political pundits, Trump secured the Republican nomination and faced Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee, in the 2016 presidential election. Despite losing the popular vote, Trump won the electoral college and thus the presidency, becoming the 45th president of the United States.
During his presidency, Trump pursued an "America First" agenda, advocating for stricter immigration policies, tax cuts, deregulation, and renegotiation of trade deals. His tenure was marked by significant controversy, including numerous legal challenges, impeachment proceedings (he was impeached twice, making him the first president in U.S. history to be impeached more than once), and polarized public opinion.
Trump's presidency also saw a notable shift in U.S. foreign policy, with renegotiations of NAFTA (replaced by the USMCA) and increased tensions with countries like China and Iran. His handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, which began in 2020, was also a subject of intense debate and criticism.
In the 2020 presidential election, Trump ran for re-election against Joe Biden but was defeated, marking the end of his presidency. Since leaving office, Trump has remained a prominent figure in American politics, continuing to influence the Republican Party and facing ongoing legal and political challenges related to his business practices and actions during his presidency.
