BACKSTORY:
Backstory to the song, “Just A Prayer Away” by Chris Jackman

When my daughter was very young, she hurt badly over the fact that her father refused to be a part of her life. I had her out of wedlock. I remember one night when she was 4 years old, she was sitting in her bed weeping, “Mommy, it hurts right here (pointing to her little chest). Why won’t my daddy come to see me.”

It was heartbreaking. She often cried over her missing daddy. At one point when she was having a rough time of it, I wrote this song for her: “Just a Prayer Away.” At the time of the recording, producer/sax player Cort Langeland remarked, “This song is going to bless a lot of people.” Perhaps now is the time.

Eventually when she was 18 years old, her dad began to try to be a part of her life. But unfortunately, the scars remain. Daddies are very important in the lives of their daughters, not just sons. I am to blame, also, because although I knew better, my choice to not wait until marriage brought much pain into her life. I’m reminded of this verse:

"If only you had paid attention to My commandments! Then your shalom would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.”
[Yeshuayahu/Isaiah 48:18]
