Republican National Convention expected to stress party unity

The Republican National Convention begins Monday afternoon in Milwaukee as scheduled, despite the attempt on former President Trump’s life Saturday.

In addition to the GOP nominating vote, Trump is expected to name his running mate during the convention’s first day.

Following introductory remarks from House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) shortly before 3 p.m. EDT, the party delegates will hold an official vote to nominate Trump as their candidate for the White House.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. EDT, a slate of speakers, listed below, will offer their own endorsements for the former — and possibly future — president.
