As a Palestinian American, I have to say this is the most honest assessment of the situation I've heard from either side. I also agree with Shir that US public opinion at this point is essentially neutralized and irrelevant. It was far more mobilized against the Iraq war and it had no impact then, so it has even less chance of deterring the war hawks today. I mean it would require a virtual revolution to budge the uniparty from its core identity as a military-industrial complex. Shir brilliantly identified the '67 war as proof of that. The US had little interest in Israel until it realized what a bonanza it could be for military sales. I can't remember who it was in the Israeli military, but he was asked in the current conflict why Israel needed so many more weapons from the US and he responded, we don't. The US gave it to us and who are we to say no? The US is like a salesman or drug pusher giving away free samples.
