This is the very first televised BBC Live General Election Night broadcast, which started at 21:30 (9:30pm) on Thursday, 26th May, 1955.
The Election Night programme was presented by Richard Dimbleby (1913-1965) and participation from David Butler (1924-2022). Mr Butler continued with election night television programming until 1979, after which he went to cover election
programming until 2010. He still appeared on breakfast television the morning after an election as recently as 2017 and 2019 he learned to Tweet (X) about elections.
