Adolf Anton Wilhelm Wohlbrück (19 November 1896 – 9 August 1967) was an Austrian actor who settled in the United Kingdom under the name #AntonWalbrook after serving as a prisoner of war during #WorldWarI. A popular performer in Austria and pre-war Germany, with ten generations of acting in his family, he left in 1936 and established a career in British cinema. Befriending #VivienLeigh early in life, #Walbrook is perhaps best known for his roles in the original British film of #Gaslight which defined the term for generations to come, The #LifeandDeathofColonelBlimp, #TheRedShoes and #VictoriatheGreat (as Prince Albert). He is described onscreen as cat-like, mysterious, debonair, continental. But the mystery of his feelings during #WeimarGermany and among his lovers, remains.
