TULSA, Okla. — A new Tulsa podcast and live show will let you hear from killers and even ask them questions.

“I had a gift for convincing people to cooperate,” Bill Courtney explained.

Bill Courtney served 33 years with the NYPD, many of those years undercover.

His law enforcement exploits are the definition of true crime.

“I had the 50 Cent case where 50 Cent was shot numerous times by a gang known as the Supreme Team," he said. He refused to cooperate in our investigation but despite that we were able to put him away and several of the lieutenants."

Courtney's career was during the 90's at the height of crime, and the crack epidemic.

The homicide rates were crazy," he said. "In the early 90s we peaked at about 2,300 homicides, it was just lawlessness."

He says walking out the door every day was dangerous. Courtney’s job was to enforce the law undercover, deep in the world of crime.

“When you are arresting leaders of organizations there is a level of respect," he said. "They are trying to get away. If you win so, be it. It is business. there is redemption now for them."

Now Tulsa will be the home of his podcast called The Proffer with the goal of bringing in people he arrested, some killers, some who tell stories of survival.

“I am in touch with a lot of the mobsters and streets guys," Courtney said. They are all willing to come tell their stories. There is pride among them in surviving. The pride of that era and making it out alive."

The first live event where you can watch will be at the Center for Public Secrets.
