Sopa Pipa Video Block

In this short video I made in early 2012, I expressed my concerns about SOPA & PIPA as the Internet at the time was under attack. So, I made this to show viewers what the internet would be like under such a law.

SOPA and PIPA are two proposed laws in the United States that aim to stop online piracy of copyrighted material, such as movies, music and counterfeit goods. SOPA stands for Stop Online Piracy Act and PIPA stands for Protect IP Act. They were introduced in the House of Representatives and the Senate in late 2011, but have not been passed yet.

Many people are opposed to these bills because they fear that they could censor the web, harm the Internet’s infrastructure and inhibit innovation. Some of the most popular websites in the world, such as Wikipedia, Google, Reddit and Twitter, joined a massive online protest against SOPA and PIPA on January 18, 2012, by blacking out their logos, redirecting users to petitions or shutting down their services for 24 hours. The Obama administration also expressed its concerns about the bills and said that it would not support legislation that reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk or undermines the dynamic, innovative global Internet.
