U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Wednesday (July 10) that the first U.S.-built F-16 fighter jets are currently being transferred to Ukraine from Denmark and the Netherlands and will be operational in Ukrainian airspace this summer. Speaking at a NATO summit event in Washington, Blinken revealed that a comprehensive support package for Ukraine will be unveiled in the coming days, aimed at facilitating Ukraine's NATO membership. "I'm pleased to announce that the transfer of F-16 jets is underway from Denmark and the Netherlands," Blinken said. "These jets will be flying over Ukraine this summer to ensure effective defense against Russian aggression." Last week, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated his goal to double Ukraine's air defense capacity over the summer, highlighting the need for at least seven additional Patriot systems for adequate protection.
