Manchester Township Police Officers Fatally Shoot Man Armed With AR-15

Ocean County, New Jersey — On December 5, 2023, at approximately 8:28 p.m., members of the Manchester Township Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting an individual in distress, later identified as 39-year-old Shannon Rose, who possessed a firearm. Officers located Rose in a wooded area, at approximately 9:10 p.m., on Elizabeth Avenue in Manchester Township. Officers attempted to negotiate with Rose to surrender the weapon. Their repeated requests to drop the weapon were unsuccessful. Manchester Police Officers Nicholas Greenwood and Michael Anderson discharged their firearms, striking Rose. Authorities recovered a firearm near Rose. That weapon was identified in the police document as a BCM4 rifle, which is an AR-15 semi-automatic gun. Rose was later pronounced deceased. Rose was married to Melissa Rose, who has been a detective in the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office since 2005.
