Israel bombed four schools in Gaza in four days.

These children were playing football in a school yard when an Israeli missile killed at least 27 sheltering Palestinians, many of them children. U.S. weapons experts told the New York Times missile fragments at the site matched U.S.-made GBU-39 precision made bombs that Israel used to in the Rafah tent camp massacre that killed 40 Palestinians in May.

The al-Awda school near Khan Younis in southern Gaza was sheltering thousands of Palestinians displaced by Israel’s 9-month-long siege. Schools, many of them run by the UN, are some of the only shelters available for Palestinians forcibly displaced from their homes by Israel’s destruction.

But Israel has repeatedly targeted schools, destroying or damaging 80% of Gaza’s school buildings. Many of the attacks occurred while Palestinians were sleeping or sheltering inside.
