Drakan: The Ancient Gates- PS2 Underrated Gem Gameplay Sample

If the PS2 had one hole in it's library of games, it was large open-world RPG's similar to Morrowind on the Xbox/PC. Drakan: The Ancient Gates is the only game I can think of that kind-of fills that Morrowind void in the PS2's library. Games like Eternal Ring and King's Field IV have similar concepts to Morrowind, but aren't open-world in design. They are much smaller in scope. Drakan, which is a PS2 sequel to 1999's Drakan: Order of the Flame released only on the PC, combines open world gameplay with hack and slash RPG mechanics, but also throws in the cool mechanic of Rynn being able to mount her dragon Arokh to fly around the world to explore the large environments, and even take on other flying enemies.

I have still yet to ever beat this game, but from the portions I have played of it over the years, it's definitely a unique blend of open world exploration, dungeon exploration, and hack and slash RPG mechanics. The open world elements aren't nearly as in depth at a game like Morrowind, which required a hard drive to save everything in the game, however, it's the closest offering to Morrowind in the PS2's library, and it's a solid RPG in it's own right.
