A 50-year-old man from San Angelo, Texas, died while hiking in the Grand Canyon after being found unresponsive on the Bright Angel Trail, about 100 feet from the trailhead.

Bystanders and emergency personnel attempted CPR, but resuscitation efforts failed. The hiker had been attempting to reach the rim after staying overnight at Havasupai Gardens.

This marks the third death in the Grand Canyon in the past three weeks.

Previous incidents include a 41-year-old man found unresponsive on the Bright Angel Trail on June 16, who also could not be revived, and a 69-year-old hiker, Scott Sims from Austin, Texas, who was found semi-responsive on the River Trail on July 1 and later died despite resuscitation efforts.

Sims had been trying to reach Phantom Ranch.

The National Park Service (NPS) is investigating these incidents, ABC News has reported.
